The Paul "Vickers" Lyon
Scholarship in New Media
Alfred University (SUNY)
alfred, NY
The Paul “Vickers” Lyon undergraduate New Media Award at Alfred University has been established by Paul's mother (Laura Hinton), his step-father (Bernard Roy), and his partner (Rachel Ridout), in addition to other devoted family members including his maternal grandparents (Barbara and Dick Hinton), and his many dear friends and admiring audiences. With this endowed scholarship, these scholarship founders and contributors hope to encourage students pursuing a degree in New Media at Alfred University, which may include video, sound, and all hybrid forms of expanded and integrated media.
Preference for the award, which begins Fall of 2016, will be given to an upperclassman working with the most progressive Art and/or Design technology available at Alfred University, who have demonstrated imaginative thinking along with a commitment to the Arts. The Award will be administered by Alfred University in consultation with the Dean of the School of Art and Design and the Provost and are to be used for curricular purposes designed by the School of Art and Design in consultation with the Provost.
Paul's mentor at Alfred, the internationally renown video artist Professor Peer Bode, along with other New Media faculty, also encouraged and helped to fund this award, hosting a art auction event at Alfred in March 2015, in the name of Paul "Vickers" Lyon, with art contributions from multiple faculty and student participants. This enormously successful and spirited auction, so appropriate to the "Vickers" character, helped to seal the additional $10,000 needed in order to make this scholarship a permanent (endowed) award.
The family and friends are very grateful for the support of all those who gave generously to fund this award over the last several years.
We will keep you updated on award recipients as the scholarship begins to be distributed.
